At the Ethiopian Policy Institute, we recognize that government policy plays a pivotal role in shaping the economic and social outcomes of a nation. This is evidenced by the remarkable economic growth in China following its policy reforms in the late 1970s, as well as the stark economic disparity between North and South Korea—two nations that share the same culture, language, geography, and history, yet diverge drastically due to differences in policy.

Guided by this understanding, our focus at the Ethiopian Policy Institute is on identifying the policies that have driven success in other countries and examining which policies continue to hinder Ethiopia’s progress. We believe that effective policy recommendations must be grounded in rigorous, evidence-based research rather than influenced by ideological bias. For this reason, we emphasize maintaining a nonpartisan stance and being continuously mindful of our own potential biases, ensuring they do not compromise the integrity of our research.
